Quadrant upgrades Roc-1 oil find

Quadrant Energy Ltd., Perth, has updated its evaluation of the Roc-1 wildcat in permit WA-437-P offshore Western Australia.

The company previously reported a 25-m reservoir zone with oil indications. Further drilling has revealed a total of 40 m gross sandstone reservoir (4,380-4,420 m) and the presence of light oil has been inferred from mud log ratios.

The reservoir sands are of good quality and the plan is to continue drilling down to about 4,900 m before undertaking wireline logs to evaluate the oil potential.

Roc-1 lies 20 km southeast of the Phoenix South-1 oil discovery in adjoining permit WA-435-P and 150 km north of Port Hedland.

Interpretation of the 3D seismic data over the Roc prospect indicates significant updip potential.

Quadrant is operator with 40%. Carnarvon Petroleum Ltd., JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corp., and Finder Exploration Pty. Ltd. each hold 20%.
