BLM extends comment period for Colorado oil, gas project’s EA

The US Bureau of Land Management has extended the comment period for a preliminary environmental assessment (EA) of a proposed oil and gas project near Somerset, Colo., until Aug. 4, BLM’s Uncompahgre Field Office in Montrose, Colo., announced. It took the action in cooperation with the US Forest Service’s Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests.

Gunnison Energy LLC and SG Interests I Ltd. submitted proposals to develop up to 25 federal natural gas wells on five well pads, BLM said in a July 17 notice.

The proposal also includes as many as 32 acres needed for associated access roads and pipelines north of Somerset, Colo., on both federal and private surface land, BLM said.

The preliminary EA provides an environmental analysis including direct, indirect, and cumulative impacts in compliance with both agencies’ National Environmental Policy Act requirements, BLM said.
