Rosneft advances hydrotreating complex at Syzran refinery

OAO Rosneft has received a reactor and cold high-pressure separator to be used in the construction of a planned diesel hydrotreating complex at its 8.5 million tonne/year Syzran refinery in Russia’s Samara region.

The 400-tonne reactor and 345.5-tonne cold high-pressure separator is the second shipment of bulk equipment delivered to the Syzran refinery for construction of the diesel hydrotreating unit, Rosneft said.

A previous shipment of two 550-tonne hydrocracking reactors were delivered to the refinery in November 2013, the company said.

Part of Rosneft’s refinery modernization plan launched in 2008, the diesel hydrotreating unit is intended to enhance diesel quality production at Syzran as well as to bring the refinery’s output up to Euro 5 environmental specifications, Rosneft said.

The refinery modernization program, which continues to be implemented, includes the construction of 30 units and reconstruction of more than 20 units at Rosneft’s Russian refineries.

In addition to increasing refinery efficiency by reducing costs and processing losses, the investment program aims to ensure that the quality of petroleum product output meets requirements of Russian Technical Regulations through 2020, the company said.

The diesel hydrotreating complex at Syzran is not scheduled to be completed before 2016, Rosneft said in its most recent annual report.
