Gazprom Neft prepares for Pechora Sea drilling in Dolginskoye field

JSC Gazprom Neft reported that an exploratory well drilled in Dolginskoye oil field in the Pechora Sea is planned during this year’s “ice-free” months.

The company said the North Dolginskoye 3 will further investigate the field’s geological structure and prepare it for full-scale development. The field is in the middle of the Pechora Sea, about 120 km south of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago and 110 km north of the Russian mainland.

The exploratory well will be drilled 3,500 m in 40 m of water. Drilling will be conducted by the GSP Saturn jack up rig, which recently arrived from Vlissingen, Netherlands. The rig is flanked by a rescue vessel, and the company has chartered four other support vessels designed for the Arctic environment.

Dolginskoye field was discovered in 1999. Three exploration wells have been drilled, two in the north and one in the south. Gazprom Neft said seismic work includes more than 11,000 line-km of 2D and 1,600 sq km of 3D.
