Irving Oil starts turnaround at St. John refinery

Irving Oil Ltd. has started 6 weeks of scheduled maintenance on several processing units at its 250,000-b/d St. John refinery in the eastern Canadian province of New Brunswick.

Work related to the turnaround will be under way 24 hr/day, 7 days a week, until the project is completed, the company said.

The $60 million (Can.) turnaround, targeted for completion by mid-April, will involve maintenance and upgrading work on several unidentified units in the refinery’s Central, South and East Process areas to improve safety, reliability, and environmental performance, and will include cleaning, equipment inspection, repairs, replacements, and piping upgrades.

While details regarding processing capacity at the refinery during the turnaround were not disclosed, the privately held company said it will continue to meet the needs of its customers throughout the course of the project.
