Sinopec lets contract for refinery water treatment system

Jiujiang Petrochemical Co., a subsidiary of state-owned China Petroleum & Chemical Corp (Sinopec), has awarded Siemens Energy a contract for the supply of a refinery wastewater treatment system at the 5 million tonne/year Jiujiang refinery in China’s Jiangxi Province.

The wastewater treatment system will be a key component of the Jiujiang refinery’s upgrade to meet China’s recent national discharge standards for wastewater and for water re-use, Siemens said in a recent release.

Commissioning for the project is targeted for late 2014, according to Siemens.

The 8 million-tpy oil product quality upgrading project at Jiujiang, which gained approval from China’s National Development and Reform Commission in 2010, has been under way, with test runs for a 1.5 million-tpy diesel liquid circulation hydrogenation unit already completed, according to Sinopec’s web site.

A safety hazards prevention and control project for a fluid catalytic cracking unit also has been completed, while work related to a 1.2 million-tpy continuous catalyst regeneration unit and an oil-to-coal revamping project continues to proceed smoothly, Sinopec said.
