Fire hits Brazil’s Reduc refinery

An early evening fire occurred on Jan. 4 at the coking unit of Petroleo Brasileiro SA’s (Petrobras) 232,000-b/d Duque de Caxias (Reduc) refinery in Rio de Janeiro state.

The fire was restricted to unidentified equipment, and no injuries occurred to either personnel or the environment, the company said in a release.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but a commission has been appointed to investigate the cause of the incident, according to Petrobras.

While the company confirmed the coking unit is “preserved,” details regarding impacts to the refinery’s current production capacity remained unavailable.
