BSEE chief issues draft offshore safety culture policy

US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement Director James A. Watson issued a draft offshore safety culture policy statement.

The statement outlines the US Department of the Interior agency’s safety culture approach and is meant to inform oil and gas operators of BSEE’s safety expectations. It but does not create any new requirements, he said Dec. 19.

“From the board room to the control room, this policy pushes us all to a safer offshore environment," Watson said.

BSEE said it will accept comments on the draft offshore safety policy statement through Mar. 20, 2013. It also announced that its Ocean Energy Safety Committee will hold its sixth public meeting Jan. 9-10 in Washington.
