Malaysia: Lundin spuds peninsular Oligocene prospect

By OGJ editors

A unit of Lundin Petroleum AB has spudded the Batu Hitam-1 exploratory well on Block PM308A off Peninsular Malaysia.

Lundin, operator with 35% interest in the block, is to drill the well to 2,450 m subsea using the Offshore Courageous jack-up. The well will test the hydrocarbon potential of a large basement high structure in the eastern part of the block. The well’s objectives are Oligocene sandstones in a four-way dip closure and fractured pre-Tertiary basement in the underlying horst block.

Other interest holders in PM308A are JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Peninsular Malaysia) Ltd. 40% and Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. 25%. Lundin Malaysia BV operates the PM308A, PM308B, PM307, SB303, SB307, and SB308 blocks.
