Russia: Multizone W. Siberia Jurassic find cored

HOUSTON, May 19
– International Petroleum Ltd., Perth, has recovered oil-saturated core from three formations of Jurassic age at the first exploratory well at its Krasnoleninskiy project in the Khanty-Mansiysk region of Western Siberia, Russia.

Well No. 1 recovered 21 m of fractured, oil-saturated core from the Bazhenov formation at 2,595-2,624 m, 0.5 m of oil-saturated core from the Abalak formation at 2,624-33 m, and 12 m of oil-saturated core from the Tyumen formation at 2,645-55 m. Coring will continue through the prospective Tyumen formation and any other zones of interest followed by wireline logging.

The company spud its first two wells in April at the Krasnoleninskiy project which comprises a 75% equity interest in four blocks totaling 1,467 sq km. Closely spaced 2D seismic identified more than 30 prospects including five “superstructures.”

Wells 1 and 2 have planned target depths of 2,850 m and 2,930 m, respectively, to investigate formations ranging in age from Cretaceous down through the weathered crust of the Paleozoic. Well 1 is drilling at 2,672 m, and Well 2 is at 2,658 m, where coring has begun.
