James Brendel, CPA, CFE, has been named managing partner of Hein & Associates LLP, a national accounting and advisory firm. Brendel, who is a 28-year veteran of the firm and most recently served as Denver, Colorado, office managing partner, stepped into his new national role effective today as part of a planned leadership transition.
Brendel takes over for Brian Mandell-Rice, a managing partner who has worked for the firm for nearly 30 years. Brendel is only the fourth managing partner in the firm’s 38-year history.
With Brendel’s new position, William Mueldener has been named Denver office managing partner. Mueldener, previously tax principal and national director of state and local tax, will oversee the office and continue to serve clients. He has worked at Hein for nine years.
Under Brendel’s national leadership, Hein will maintain its focus on providing audit, tax, and business advisory services to public and private companies, notably within five growing and complex industries: energy, manufacturing and distribution, private equity, real estate and construction, and technology.
Brendel has more than 30 years of public accounting and audit experience that spans many of the firm’s key industries, including energy, manufacturing and distribution, technology, and real estate. In addition to his firm leadership role, Brendel specializes in US Securities and Exchange Commission reporting and provides public companies with consulting services for SOX 404 compliance and for complex accounting issues. He also assists clients with transactions such as mergers and acquisitions and initial public offerings.
