Total to appoint CEO Pouyanne as board chairman

Total CEO Patrick Pouyanne is expected to be appointed as chairman of the company’s board of directors, according to Reuters.

The president and CEO roles were split a year ago, following the death of Christophe de Margerie, who had held both positions. At that time, Pouyanne was named CEO, and Thierry Desmarest returned to the role of chairman. Due to rules on age limits, Desmarest, who is turning 70 on Friday, will now step down. Desmarest had previously served as chairman and CEO of the company from 1995 to 2007, and then continued solely as chairman until 2010.
