Global investment bank Houlihan Lokey (NYSE: HLI) has expanded its Oil & Gas Exploration and Production (E&P) Group to include an Acquisitions and Divestitures (A&D) team with experience in the oil and gas sector.
The Houlihan Lokey A&D team will assist the firm’s oil and gas clients with the identification, valuation, acquisition, and divestiture of short- and long-term assets as part of companies’ overall asset allocation strategies, adding a unique skill set to Houlihan Lokey’s E&P platform. The team also will include technical experts to conduct research, subsurface analyses, and engineering-based asset valuations, allowing Houlihan Lokey to further elevate its service to the upstream sector.
As part of this expansion, the firm has appointed Kirk Tholen as managing director and head of the A&D practice in Houston. Tholen joins from Credit Agricole’s Corporate and Investment Bank, where he was a managing director and group head of Acquisitions & Divestitures, Americas, for the past three years. With close to 25 years of experience in the sector, Tholen’s experience spans nearly every aspect of the oil and gas industry. He has advised on a range of transactions including upstream mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, business development, petroleum engineering, and division startups.
Tholen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston. He is a former board member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, holds a number of professional certifications and association memberships, and is a frequent speaker at various industry events.
