Unimin celebrates opening of Benwood terminal

On Oct. 27, Unimin Energy Solutions celebrated the grand opening of its second unit train capable terminal located in Benwood, West Virginia. The event was attended by city and county officials and service companies operating across the Marcellus and Utica shale plays.

Unimin, along with partners CSX Railroad and Transload Solutions, operates a transload and storage facility in the Marcellus shale play in West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania.

The Benwood terminal has almost 20,000 tons of silo storage capacity and can load up to 55 trucks per hour to ensure maximum efficiency. The CSX Railroad will shuttle unit trains to continuously replenish frac sand inventory.

The Benwood terminal is the most recent addition to Unimin's terminal network operating in the Marcellus and Utica plays. In June, Unimin Energy Solutions made the first delivery of frac sands by unit train to its Jerry Run, West Virginia, terminal, which was the first of Unimin’s terminals in the region.
