Phases 15 and 16 of South Pars gas project to start up in October

Iran's Pars Oil and Gas Co. (POGC) says that Phases 15 and 16 of the offshore South Pars gas field project located on the Iranian border with Qatar in the Persian Gulf are close to starting production.

The phases are expected to come online by mid-October. Production from Phases 15 and 16 of the offshore South Pars, jointly operated by Iran and Qatar, is forecast to reach 1.7 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) in a month. The two phases are currently producing 1.0946 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) or 31 thousand cubic meters per day (Mcm/d) of gas. A drilling rig is to be installed in these phases for completing the remaining wells.

The development of Phases 15 and 16 is aimed at producing 1.9986 MMcf/d (56.6 Mcm/d) of natural gas, 75,000 barrels per day of gas condensate, 400 tons a day of sulfur, 1.05 million tons a year of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and one million tons of ethane for feeding petrochemical plants.

A consortium comprising Iranian companies is in charge of offshore and onshore development of Phases 15 and 16 of the South Pars field, which is currently supplying 10.5932 MMcf/d (300 Mcm/d) of gas, which equals 72 percent of Iran’s total gas consumption. Nearly 3.5311 MMcf/d (100 Mcm/d) is projected to be added to South Pars gas production capacity while all 29 phases are expected to have been developed in three years.
