JV combines Ikon Science’s QI workflows with PetroTrace Global’s technology

Building on the existing joint venture linking Ikon Science with PetroTrace Global, Ikon Science has now made available seismic data processing workflows using a new high-performance computing (HPC) cluster in its UK office. This adds a wide array of pre-stack velocity modeling and processing capabilities required to condition seismic data for optimal performance in advanced Quantitative Interpretation (QI) workflows, including the latest geological inversion and Bayesian facies classification technologies.

By integrating the processing and QI workflows, the quality of the seismic processing is tested and improved by rock physics, and the intermediate deliverables can be optimized for QI throughout the seismic processing sequence. Ikon Science says that this allows customers to get the most from their data for projects involving advanced technologies such as Ikon Science’s new Ji-Fi joint impedance and facies inversion.

One example is the ability to constantly monitor improvements in well-tie and wavelet. This allows processing steps such as de-phasing and Q correction to be optimized to deliver zero phase, amplitude calibrated, and optimum bandwidth seismic volumes for QI.

“In Ikon’s QI group, we find that many seismic datasets we receive are not optimally processed for seismic inversion,” said Friso Brouwer, Ikon Science QI manager for the company’s Europe/Africa/Middle East (EAME) region. “The addition of PetroTrace Global’s capabilities and expertise to Ikon Science Quantitative Interpretation workflows gives our customers a single-stop delivery for state-of-the-art project results involving datasets that may not have been processed to necessary standards for seismic inversion. Initial reactions from our customers are very positive. They see the value of accessing PetroTrace Global’s expertise to ensure optimal results.”

Nikolai Baransky, CEO of PetroTrace Global, commented, “We are very pleased with this expansion of the collaboration of PetroTrace Global with Ikon Science’s QI teams; by working closely together and pooling our expertise and our technologies, we will provide a superior result to our customers. Both companies have a similar culture that creates high-quality, fit-for-purpose workflows that are adapted to the specific challenges of a project, and regular interaction with the customer to ensure that the outcomes meet or exceed expectations.”

Ikon Science is a global geoprediction technology company providing industry leadership in the prediction of reservoir properties, pressures and fluids. Its RokDoc software, Quantitative Interpretation, GeoMechanics, and GeoPressure services all leverage the power of rock science to integrate well, geopressure, and seismic data to understand the subsurface. Ikon Science’s RokDoc software platform and related services are used in oil, gas, energy, and service companies throughout the world.

PetroTrace Global’s staff served the oil and gas industry with seismic processing, structural interpretation, and reservoir characterization capabilities as an independent company until it became part of the Paradigm Geophysical organization from 1997 to 2010. PetroTrace Global was founded in 2010 as an independent organization with activities in a number of global markets outside of its core market in the CIS, notably in the Middle East, Asia, and North America. The company uses wide azimuth, anisotropic, AVO/AVA, and advanced velocity modeling software to tackle complex geological challenges both onshore and offshore.
