Building on the existing joint venture linking Ikon Science with PetroTrace Global, Ikon Science has now made available seismic data processing workflows using a new high-performance computing (HPC) cluster in its UK office. This adds a wide array of pre-stack velocity modeling and processing capabilities required to condition seismic data for optimal performance in advanced Quantitative Interpretation (QI) workflows, including the latest geological inversion and Bayesian facies classification technologies.
By integrating the processing and QI workflows, the quality of the seismic processing is tested and improved by rock physics, and the intermediate deliverables can be optimized for QI throughout the seismic processing sequence. Ikon Science says that this allows customers to get the most from their data for projects involving advanced technologies such as Ikon Science’s new Ji-Fi joint impedance and facies inversion.
One example is the ability to constantly monitor improvements in well-tie and wavelet. This allows processing steps such as de-phasing and Q correction to be optimized to deliver zero phase, amplitude calibrated, and optimum bandwidth seismic volumes for QI.
“In Ikon’s QI group, we find that many seismic datasets we receive are not optimally processed for seismic inversion,” said Friso Brouwer, Ikon Science QI manager for the company’s Europe/Africa/Middle East (EAME) region. “The addition of PetroTrace Global’s capabilities and expertise to Ikon Science Quantitative Interpretation workflows gives our customers a single-stop delivery for state-of-the-art project results involving datasets that may not have been processed to necessary standards for seismic inversion.
