Rich Shappard, an Assurance Partner at PwC, has been named the US Energy Sector Assurance Leader. He has more than 29 years of experience providing services to energy and manufacturing clients.
Shappard has spent the past 18 years in Houston, focused on public and private energy companies ranging from independent oil and gas producers to global integrated and multinational oilfield services companies. He began his career in the St. Louis, Missouri, office of Price Waterhouse. He relocated to Denver, Colorado, in 1990 and to Houston, Texas, in 1996, where he was admitted to the partnership of PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1998.
As one the senior partners in the Houston Energy practice, Shappard is a contributor to upstream sector thought leadership and oil & gas knowledge across the company’s energy practice. Shappard is one of the principal authors of the 7th Edition of Petroleum Accounting Principles, Procedures & Issues textbook, an oil & gas industry resource for public accounting and industry practitioners. He has extensive SEC accounting and reporting experience and specialized knowledge in the areas of business combinations, derivatives, and income taxes.
Shappard is a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) in the states of Texas, Colorado, and Missouri.
