Karol Lyn Newman and her energy practice have joined the firm Wilkinson Barker Knauer LLP. As a partner in Washington, DC, she will lead the firm’s federal regulatory energy practice, coordinating her work with the firm’s Denver, Colorado-based energy practice.
Newman advises regulated and unregulated entities on corporate restructurings; acquisitions, and partnering arrangements; federal and state regulatory and litigation strategies; regulatory enforcement matters; and mediation and negotiation of contract and regulatory disputes. Her experience includes issues of federal jurisdiction; preemption; eminent domain; regulatory takings; the constitutionality of federal legislation; affiliated transactions; misuse of the administrative process; ratemaking, capacity allocations, and capacity transfers; the permitting of federally regulated facilities; and environmental concerns.
Newman is a graduate of both the University of Maryland and the University of Maryland School of Law. She also is a member of the American Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Maryland Bar Association, and the Energy Bar Association. Newman is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the following federal courts: the US Supreme Court; the US Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fourth, Fifth, Tenth, Eleventh and District of Columbia Circuits; and the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
