Sparrows Group has boosted its senior management team with the appointment of a director, Steve Bertone, to head up the company’s operations across the Americas. He will be based in Houston and will oversee all of the company’s operations in the US, Brazil, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
Bertone joins Sparrows Group after 33 years with McDermott International. Prior to his new role with Sparrows, Bertone was McDermott’s vice president of marine operations, and he has also held the roles of country manager for Qatar and Saudi Arabia. He has an engineering background and graduated with a master’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York.
Sparrows Group provides oilfield engineering services, specializing in offshore lifting, crane engineering and services, mechanical handling, pipe and cable lay systems, fluid power engineering, equipment rentals, and competence training.
Sparrows delivers services through three regional headquarters and 16 service delivery centers spanning six continents. The company has had a presence in the US since 1999, and it works across the Gulf of Mexico as the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for a number of crane brands. It also has a joint venture, Sparrows BSM, in Brazil, and a partnership in Mexico.
