IWCF appoints Conroy as first chief technical officer

The International Well Control Forum (IWCF), an independent organization that sets international well control standards, has appointed David Conroy as its first chief technical officer.

Based at the organization’s UK headquarters, Conroy will be developing this new role to lead changes to the technical aspects of IWCF’s services, including exam quality, program development, curriculum, and training.

Conroy has 20 years of experience in the international oil and gas industry. He will join IWCF in July from Schlumberger, where he has held a variety of positions for over 10 years, most recentlyserving as Drilling & Drilling Engineering director of curriculum in Dubai.

Conroy holds a PhD in geology from The Queen’s University of Belfast, Ireland, which initially led him to roles in geological surveying. Since joining the oil and gas industry in Aberdeen, Scotland, he has worked in a variety of positions in Norway, Oman, and the US (in Houston).

The IWCF is the only independent body focused on oil and gas well training and accreditation. It sets training standards through a global network of branches, and is committed to delivering a permanent step change in process safety and operations throughout the life cycle of the well. Through collaboration with industry, the organization aims to increase competency and change behavior.
