Samuel to lead new UK Oil & Gas Authority

BG Group's Andy Samuel will head the UK's new Oil & Gas Authority (OGA), which is being established to foster cooperation between government and industry for North Sea oil production, according to Reuters. The organization will be in operation by April 2015.

Samuel's appointment was announced by the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) on Nov. 6. He is currently managing director of BG Group's Exploration and Production in Europe. DECC said that Samuel would be involved in any decisions vital to the OGA's establishment that are made before he takes up the full-time position of OGA chief executive on Jan. 1, 2015.

Reuters noted that Samuel's early priorities will be to help establish the OGA; equip it with the right people, skills, and culture; and establish a strong partnership with government and industry.
