Royal named French Energy and Environment Minister

Segolene Royal, the ex-partner of France’s President Francois Hollande and who herself ran for president in 2007, has been appointed as the country’s energy and environment minister, according to a Reuters report.

Royal's return to frontline politics came in a cabinet reshuffle after heavy losses for the ruling Socialists in local elections.

Additionally, Reuters noted that Farm Minister Stephane Le Foll, one of Hollande's closest allies, was reappointed in the new team and will take up additional duties as government spokesman.
