Valero reports on management changes, including new CEO

Valero Energy Corp.

Valero Energy Corp. (NYSE: VLO) has appointed Joe Gorder, who was named president and COO in 2012, to the role of CEO, effective May 1. Bill Klesse will step down as CEO, effective May 1, but will remain a Valero director and chairman of the board. Valero also reports that Gene Edwards, the company’s executive vice president and chief development officer, has elected to retire, effective April 30.

In addition to his new role, Gorder has also been elected a director by the board of directors, and has joined the board.

Gorder has been with Valero and its predecessors for 27 years. In addition to his current position, he previously held positions at Valero including executive vice president, chief commercial officer, and president of Valero Europe; executive vice president of marketing and supply; and senior vice president for corporate development and strategic planning.
