Empire O&G appoints Aitken as CEO

Empire Oil & Gas NL has appointed Ken Aitken as chief executive. Aitken is experienced in Western Australia’s (WA’s) oil and gas industry, in particular the Perth Basin, which hosts Empire’s assets, as well as extensive international experience gained as a senior executive with Amerada Hess and Enterprise Oil in Norway, the UK, and Indonesia. He will begin his new role at Empire in May.

Aitken is currently general manager of operations and engineering with ASX-listed petroleum company New Standard Energy, with responsibility for managing all operated asset activities with joint venture partners Conoco Phillips and Petrochina. Prior to this, Aitken held the position of WA business unit manager/asset manager with Origin Energy for a total of seven years. During his tenure, Origin discovered and developed the Redback gas field, located in the onshore Perth Basin. From 2003 to 2005, Aitken was employed by Mitsui Exploration and Production Australia as development and production asset manager.

Aitken has held several international positions including reservoir development manager with Amerada Hess in Aberdeen, Scotland. He was also technical and asset manager with Hess, based in Oslo, Norway, and was the senior petroleum engineer for Enterprise Oil, based in Aberdeen.
