Total appoints Scholten as senior vice president, general counsel


Total has appointed Maarten Scholten as the company’s senior vice president and general counsel. In this role, he is a member of Total’s management committee.

Scholten has almost 30 years of legal and financial experience in the oil industry. During a 20-year career at Schlumberger, he served in senior and executive positions, including director of legal services; head of finance; president of Schlumberger oilfield services for Europe, Africa and CIS; and director of mergers and acquisitions/business development.

Scholten holds a Master of Science degree in politics from the University of Paris (Sorbonne), and a JD in commercial law from the University of Amsterdam.
