API standards director to discuss shale gas opportunities, challenges at Flow-Cal conference

Flow-Cal Inc., a provider of measurement data management for natural gas and petroleum liquids, has secured David Miller of the American Petroleum Institute as the keynote speaker for the 2013 Flow-Cal Users Group conference.  Miller is the Director of the API Standards Program where he is responsible for the creation, maintenance and oversight of measurement standards.

David joined the API in 1985 and currently represents the organization on the US Department of Commerce Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Standards and Technical Barriers to Trade, and the Offshore Technology Conference Board of Directors.  His presentation at the 14th Annual Flow-Cal conference is titled “Shale Gas – Opportunity and Challenge” and will discuss the changing landscape of the energy industry and its influence upon the API regulatory work and associated standards.

“Increased activity in the shale plays has dramatically affected our entire industry,” says Miller.  “As improving technologies provide better opportunities to develop the energy that fuels America, industry standards must adapt as well.”

“Flow-Cal and the API began working together over 5 years ago to jointly provide software for calculating both the volume and mass of liquid hydrocarbons. Working with David and his colleagues has given our staff a better appreciation for the challenges and responsibility associated with establishing and maintaining global standards,” states R. Michael Squyres, Flow-Cal’s president.

API is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited standards developing organization.  Its standards are developed in an open and transparent process.

The 14th annual Flow-Cal users group conference will be held May 28-31 in Oklahoma City, OK.
