Gazprom Neft addresses carbonates issue in Arctic field

Offshore staff

MOSCOWGazprom Neft plans to implement new oil production technologies in carbonate and fractured reservoirs.

The company’s fields in this category include Prirazlomnoye in the Pechora Sea offshore northern Russia.

Gazprom Neft’s Joint Scientific and Research Center has put together the program which includes 12 initiatives in geological prospecting, field development, well boring, and oil production.

Implementation, the company says, will improve its understanding of the behavior of carbonate reservoirs under development and help it to enhance the efficiency of oil production from these.

The company plans to introduce EOR measures at various fields onshore Russia, where the problems include pores clogged with salt, stopping oil from passing through. In another case the company is evaluating acid-fracturing technologies.
