GoM production restored following Tropical Storm Hermine

Offshore staff

NEW ORLEANS – Offshore oil and gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico were able to re-board platforms and rigs and restore production following Tropical Storm Hermine, reports the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).

In its final update on Hermine, the bureau’s Hurricane Response Team said it had been monitoring the operators’ activities and will continue to work with offshore operators and other state and federal agencies until operations return to normal.

Based on recent data from offshore operator reports, there are no remaining evacuated production platforms and personnel returned to all 11 rigs (non-dynamically positioned rigs) currently operating in the Gulf. The three dynamically positioned rigs that had previously been moved off have returned to location. There are currently a total of 750 manned platforms and 19 dynamically positioned rigs operating in the Gulf.

From operator reports, BSEE estimated that approximately 12.04% of the current oil and 6.74% of the natural gas production was shut-in.

After the storm has passed, facilities will be inspected. Once all standard checks have been completed, the bureau said that production from undamaged facilities will be brought back online immediately. Facilities sustaining damage may take longer to bring back on line. No damage reports have been submitted.
