BP orders more umbilicals from Nexans for West Nile Delta offshore Egypt

Offshore staff

PARIS – BP Exploration (Delta) UK has contracted Nexans to supply roughly 100 km (62 mi) of static umbilicals and associated accessories for the next phase of the West Nile Delta project in the Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea.

The facilities will help BP and partner DEA develop the Giza, Fayoum and Raven gas/condensate fields and, at a later date, other discovered and undiscovered resources in the companies’ concessions, 65-85 km (40-53 mi) from the coast of Alexandria.

Nexans will manufacture the electrical cables in Rognan, Norway, and the umbilicals at its complex in Halden. Delivery is scheduled for 2018.

BP and Nexans have also been working together on Phase 1 of the West Nile Delta project. In 2014, Nexans won the contract to deliver 48 km (30 mi) of static umbilicals for the Taurus Libra development.
