WEST PERTH, Australia – Searcher Seismic and BGP have completed new seismic surveys offshore Norway and Western Australia.

Phase 2 of the Silver-Eye 3D seismic survey in the Barents Sea expands existing Phase 1 3D coverage of the Hammerfest basin off northern Norway.

Offshore Western Australia, acquisition has finished of the final phase of the Bilby 2D seismic survey bringing the completed project to 14,336 km (8,908 mi).

Rachel Masters, global sales manager for Searcher Seismic, said: “The Silver-Eye 3D seismic survey provides 4,548 sq km [1,756 sq mi] of excellent quality new broadband 3D data covering the Snøhvit field, the Goliat field, and the Tornerose discovery.

“In addition, the Silver-Eye 3D covers both north and south flanks of the Hammerfest basin allowing explorers to extensively evaluate the area.”

Bilby 2D, she added, includes coverage to proposed 2016 open acreage and ties both the Phoenix South-1 and Roc-1 discoveries wells, with a multi-well appraisal drilling campaign due to start in the area soon.

Results have revealed not only leads associated with the Lower Triassic petroleum systems pursued in the Roc/Phoenix South area, but also new play types that were not recognized previously.

DownUnder GeoSolutions is processing both data-sets. Final data volume for Phase 2 of Silver-Eye is expected to become available in 4Q, with final data for Bilby 2D Phase 3 to be issued next January.
