HOUSTON – The US Gulf of Mexico rig count has increased to 27, according to the Baker Hughes Weekly Rig Count of Feb. 26, 2016.

That number was an increase of one (from 26) from the company’s weekly rig count dated Feb. 5, 2016, and is the same number reported in the Baker Hughes Weekly Rig Count of Jan. 8, 2016.

The overall US offshore rig count is down by 24 rigs, year over year.

Total rigs engaged in exploration and production in the US totaled 502 for the week ended Feb. 26, down by 12 from the previous report.

The current nationwide rig count is still less than half of the prior-year level of 1,267.

The natural gas rig count was up by one from the previous report to 102. This compares to 286 active natural gas rigs a year ago.

The oil rig count fell by 13 from the previous report to 400. This number not only lies on the lower end of the five-year range but is also well below the previous year’s rig count of 986.
