LARNACA, Cyprus – The Cotemar Group, a contractor providing offshore services to PEMEX, has informed Prosafe that the Safe Lancia will also be suspended, adding to the growing list of Prosafe vessels affected by PEMEX’s recent financial cuts.
According to a Feb. 29th report from The Wall Street Journal quoting PEMEX CEO José Antonio González Anaya, the Mexican national oil company will cut $5.5 billion from its budget this year by deferring investments and reducing costs.
Prosafe said that Safe Lancia will be demobilized to a suitable lay-up location.
In December 2013, Cotemar awarded a three-year bareboat contract to Prosafe for Safe Lancia. At that time, the company said that the $68-million award contracted the rig through December 2016.
Days later, Safe Regency was also granted a bareboat contract from Cotemar effective Jan. 27, 2013 until Dec. 31, 2017 in a contract valued at around $86 million.
The $32.7-million contract of Prosafe’s Jasminia, in place since November 2013, was also canceled earlier this month.
