Bourbon Arctic completes first rig disconnection

MARSEILLE, FranceBOURBON has taken delivery of the new anchor handling tug supply vessel Bourbon Arctic from the Vard Brattvåg shipyard in Norway.

The vessel has already completed its first anchor handling operation, assisting with the disconnection and unmooring of the Island Innovator drilling rig at the Fosen field in the central Norwegian North Sea.

Bourbon Arctic provides a bollard pull of 307 tons in boost mode and 193 tons in diesel electric mode, among the highest capacities available for this type of vessel, BOURBON claims.

In addition to anchor handling the vessel can perform supply duties, oil recovery, standby operations, firefighting, rescue (up to 300 survivors) and ROV operations. Or it can be used as a floatel.

Its strengthened hull and Ice Class winterization equipment allows it to work in temperatures down to -20°C (-4°F), with SPS class passenger accommodation capacities for up to 60 personnel.

The Clean Design designation means that it complies with the strictest requirements concerning emissions to the air and discharges to the sea, BOURBON adds, and its dual propulsion system allows it to adapt power needs to the operation in diesel electric mode, leading to reduced fuel consumption compared to conventional AHTSs.
