HOUSTON – The US Gulf of Mexico rig count remains at 26, according to the Baker Hughes Weekly Rig Count of Feb. 5, 2016.

That was the same tally that was found in the company’s weekly rig count dated Jan. 15, 2016.

Total rigs engaged in exploration and production in the US totaled 571 for the week ended Feb. 5, down by 48 from the previous report. The current nationwide rig count is still less than half of the prior-year level of 1,456.

The natural gas rig count was down by 17 from the previous report to 104. This compares to 314 active natural gas rigs a year ago.

The oil rig count fell by 31 from the previous report to 467. This number not only lies on the lower end of the five-year range but is also well below the previous year’s rig count of 1,140.
