Masirah drills new target offshore Oman

TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands – The jackup Aban VII has spudded the Manarah-1 well in 23 m (75 ft) water depth in block 50 offshore Oman.

According to Masirah Oil, the well is targeting a prospect at a depth of more than 3 km (1.8 mi), on a structural closure 13 km (8 mi) from the GAS-1 discovery well.

The aim is to explore multiple target horizons in the central part of the Masirah basin.

Masirah says the well location was chosen following integration of conventional methodologies and the application of proprietary technology by Rex Virtual Drilling.

Shareholders in Masirah are Rex Oman (57.6%), Lime Petroleum (6.4%), and Petroci (36%).
