Chinese contractor commissions deepwater pipelay/dive support vessel

SHANGHAI, China – Wärtsilä has signed a contract with Shanghai Bestway Marine Engineering Design Co. to design a deepwater dive support vessel for Shanghai Salvage Bureau.

The DP-3 vessel will be able to perform deepwater pipelaying and construction work, and saturation (SAT) diving operations for 24 divers using two diving bells.

Wärtsilä claims this will be the world’s first SAT diving support vessel with multi-lay and ultra-deepwater construction capabilities.
