Red Marine conducts high-pressure tests on FMC Technologies workover valve

HEXHAM, UK Red Marine has completed qualification testing of a new vent valve for FMC Technologies.

The valve, employed during workover operations, allows swift redistribution of high pressure oil and gas within the landing string system for emergency riser disconnection.

Red Marine’s 12-week test program was designed to validate the performance of the vent valve against industry standards including ISO 10423 (API 6A).

It included design and supply of the test assembly and its multi-pressure hydraulic control system, in cooperation with FMC Technologies’ well access systems team.

Initially a variety of static pressure tests were conducted up to 15,500 psi (1,067 bar), followed by cycle tests to assess valve function and seal endurance.

On completion of this phase, rapid decompression tests were run using water, sand slurry, and nitrogen gas test media.
