Odfjell rig to drill wildcat west of Shetland

Offshore staff

BERGEN, Norway – JX Nippon Exploration and Production (U.K.) has contracted Odfjell Drilling’s semisubmersible Deepsea Stavanger for an exploration well west of Shetland.

Contract duration is 60-75 days. Drilling is expected to start this spring.

Last November the rig completed an assignment for BP offshore Angola, then underwent its five-year special periodic survey.

Currently it is en route to Norway before mobilizing to UK waters for the JX Nippon contract.

In early 2017 the rig will begin development drilling for Wintershall on the Maria field in the Norwegian Sea.
