Lankhorst Ropes to supply mooring lines for Appomattox production platform

SNEEK, the NetherlandsShell Offshore Inc. has contracted Lankhorst Ropes to supply the mooring lines for the Appomattox development, located around 140 nautical miles southeast of New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico.

The semisubmersible four-column production platform will be moored in about 7,200 ft (2,195 m) of water using 16 mooring lines arranged in four-by-four clusters. Lankhorst Ropes is supplying 78 rope lengths totaling more than 63,000 m (20,669 ft) of its Gama 98 polyester deepwater mooring rope with minimum breaking strength of 21,545 kN (4,843,508 lbs).

The Gama 98 ropes will be manufactured at the company’s factory, dedicated to the production of offshore mooring systems, in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
