Offshore staff

OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has authorized Wintershall to drill an exploration well in the Barents Sea, using the semisubmersible Transocean Arctic.

Well 7224/2-1 will be the first in production license 611, awarded in 2011 under Norway’s 21st licensing round.

The location is 25 km (15.5 mi) northwest of the discovery 7224/6-1 (Arenaria) and 240 km (149 mi) north of Hammerfest.

Drilling will start after the rig completes current wildcat well 7130/4-1 for Lundin in PL 708.
