OSLO, NorwaySonga Equinox, the first of four Category D semisubmersible rigs built for and contracted to Statoil, has started an eight-year drilling contract at the Troll field in the Norwegian North Sea.

This follows approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) for the rig to drill and complete wells on the field in production licenses 054 and 085.

PSA has also authorized use of the semisubs COSLInnovator and COSLPromoter for drilling, completion, intervention, workover, and well plugging on Troll.
