Marlink to upgrade communications on Maridive offshore support vessel fleet

OSLO, Norway – Egyptian offshore marine and oil support services provider Maridive Group will migrate 24 of its existing offshore support vessels (OSVs) and one newbuild to Marlink’s VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) WaveCall Plus services.

It thereby aims to improve its operational, client, and crew communication facilities.

Maridive’s fleet has operated offshore north and West Africa, the Mediterranean, the Caspian Sea, and in various Latin American countries. Originally the contractor selected Marlink to upgrade its vessels to VSAT in 2012.

This latest contract adds a further five vessels operating offshore Venezuela and Brazil.

Maridive marine service director Capt. Mohamed Yakout said: “Our strategy is to ensure reliable broadband connectivity on board. The higher bandwidth and reliability of Marlink’s VSAT service will enable smarter operations through the use of IP based technical applications, ERP, surveillance cameras and equipment monitoring in addition to faster, multi-user internet access and navigation software and chart updates.”

All 24 contracted OSVs should benefit from higher bandwidth through use of WaveCall Plus, a package that combines high-speed Ku-band connectivity, including increased maximum information rate and committed information rate, with unlimited L-band back-up and Marlink’s delivery service platform XChange.

XChange should allow Maridive to manage and control its communications network aboard, and from shore, helping the contractor’s IT support team to reduce the time taken for network administration, for instance when adding new users or groups or managing access to data and voice services on board.
