The agreement signifies Sonangol’s continued efforts to improve the attractiveness for international partners participating in the development of the Angolan oil and gas industry.
The meeting between the two companies also confirmed their commitments to use the natural gas extracted by Eni in Angola, in partnership with Sonangol, to provide energy for the domestic market and to support the local economy.
Sonangol and Eni will conclude over the coming months the evaluation of gas field development projects in the Lower Congo basin, which will result in the generation of up to 1.5GW of electricity for the country.
The meeting also resulted in agreement between the two companies to collaborate on the development of the Lobito refinery project, with the intention that Angola will become independent in oil and gas supply.
The Sonangol delegation included directors Paulino Jeronimo and Ana Joaquina da Costa, as well as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Sonangol Research, Carlos Saturnino, and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Sonagas, Ruben Costa.
