LIMASSOL, CyprusSonga Equinox, Songa Offshore’s new “Cat D” semisubmersible drilling rig, has arrived in Fensfjorden, Norway, following its voyage from the DSME yard in South Korea.

All third-party equipment was installed prior to the arrival. Currently the rig is undergoing the client’s acceptance test program prior to starting its contract offshore Norway, targeted for end-November.

Songa Endurance, the second of four rigs of this design built by DSME, is currently in transit from Namibia to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. It is expected to reach Norway later this month.

Again, all third-party equipment will be installed on the rig prior to arrival, and it will undergo the same acceptance tests.

The application for acknowledgement of compliance for Songa Equinox was submitted to Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway in early March and for Songa Endurance in early August.

PSA audit and inspections have taken place at DSME with final verifications to be staged shortly after rig arrival in Norway.

As for the remaining two rigs, Songa Encourage is scheduled to be completed in South Korea sometime this month, with Songa Enabler following during 1Q 2016.
