CAIRO, Egypt – Eni expects to resume drilling activities in January on its giant Zohr gas discovery in Egypt’s deepwater sector of the Mediterranean Sea.

Last week CEO Claudio Descalzi met Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss progress on the development plan for Zohr and the associated timing and costs of this project.

They also reviewed Eni’s recent shallow-water Nooros gas discovery where production is set to climb to 5 MMcf/d once a second well comes onstream.

Another topic covered was the potential impact of the establishment of a gas hub in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, opening up Egyptian transport infrastructure to other nearby discoveries offshore Cyprus and Israel.
