HOUSTON SMOE Singapore has commissioned KBR (NYSE: KBR) to perform detailed design engineering for three sets of platform topsides for Maersk Oil’s Culzean project in the UK central North Sea.

These are for the living quarters, central processing facility, and wellhead decks.

Since May 2014, KBR has supported Maersk in the development of the concept and front-end engineering and design for the ultra-high-pressure/high-temperature Culzean field from its office in Leatherhead near London.

The Leatherhead team will transition the 16-month detailed design to KBR’s project team in Singapore. In addition, KBR will provide follow-on services to SMOE during the 32-month duration of the project.

Contracts have already been placed for 18 major equipment packages. Early engagement of the supply chain in the project life-cycle is critical in achieving first gas from Culzean for 2019, KBR said.
