ABERDEEN, UKACE Winches has supplied what it claims is one of the world’s largest chain winch packages for Heerema Marine Contractors’ new Aegir vessel.

The 200-metric ton (220-ton) chainlifter hydraulic system, designed to support the Ichthys LNG project offshore northwest Australia, will be used to pull 178-mm diameter chains.

In addition, ACE Winches provided two 50-metric ton (55-ton) WLL twin chainlifter hydraulic winches, a 576-kW containerized safe area electric hydraulic power units (HPUs), and two 76-kW containerized safe area electric HPUs.

The company and Heerema evaluated various solutions before deciding on laying the chains on the barge then reeling them off with the help of the chainlifter winch packages.
