LONDONEnQuest has produced first oil from its Alma/Galia development in the UK central North Sea following final commissioning of all required systems.

CEO Amjad Bseisu said: “We will continue to open up additional wells, with full production rates expected from early 2016.”

The Alma/Galia fields are in blocks 30/24c and 30/25c, 310 km (192 mi) southeast of Aberdeen. Production is via the EnQuest Producer FPSO.

Alma, formerly the Argyll field, was the first commercially produced oil field on the UK continental shelf. In the early 1990s previous operator Hamilton managed limited oil production at relatively low water cut, using technology available at the time.

With current technology, EnQuest says, field life can be extended significantly: the FPSO has a liquid handling capacity of 120,000 b/d.

The two fields contain estimated oil in place of 307 MMbbl, of which 30% has so far been recovered.
