CAIRO, Egypt – Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi met with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi earlier this week to discuss development options for the recent Zohr gas discovery in the Mediterranean Sea.

Both parties confirmed their commitment to accelerate the production start-up of the reported gas giant.

Additionally, they discussed the possibility of establishing a gas hub in the eastern Mediterranean Sea aimed to make Egyptian transport and export facilities available for other nearby discoveries.

Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954 through its subsidiary IEOC. It is the country’s main hydrocarbon producer in Egypt, with a daily equity production of 190,000 boe.
