DOT 2015: ShawCor discusses inspection systems update

Offshore staff

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Officials from Shawcor were on hand at the Deep Offshore Technology International conference and exhibition to discuss an update to the company’s current girth weld inspection products that use ultrasonic technology.

The company is now in the process of qualifying a new hardware and software combination that will build upon its current offerings, with the aim to add extra tools and analysis capability.

With the potential to be used on or offshore, these tools will have specific applicability to thicker wall pipe.

The intention, Shawcor said, is for the update system to be more portable than current iteration. It will integrate with management systems to provide clients with better availability of weld data.

First qualifications for the update are expected to be completed by the end of the year. Shawcor intends to roll out the product out to market by next year.
